Kyle Murray was the first to jump in when someone needed a hand.

Whether it was clearing snow off his neighbors’ cars or making new friends, he’s known around his neighborhood as a good kid.

“Kyle is one of the sweetest kids. The whole family is sweet, but Kyle is one of the sweetest kids around,” said Hannah Poirier. “He’s always willing to help anybody.”

On Friday, as Kyle was walking home from school a spruce tree snapped by high winds and fell right on top of him.

“Kyle suffered major injuries and is currently in a medically induced coma,” Boscawen Police said in a social media post.

Poirer has known Kyle and his mom, Danielle Murray, for five years, ever since they moved into her apartment complex, Woodland Commons on North Main Street in Boscawen.

Kyle was rushed to Concord Hospital and then transferred to Boston’s Children’s Hospital, where his parents, Danielle and Gordon Murray, have monitored his medical condition.

“It’s one of the biggest trees we have at the apartment complex,” said Poirier. “It was a shock when I heard it.”

Kyle’s three-year-old brother is currently with their grandmother, friends said.

In a social media post, Danielle shared the details of Kyle’s accident.

Kyle got the “full force of the entire trunk on his whole body and that he was “pinned under the trunk, not branches,” his mother said.

Poirier created an online fundraising page to support the Murray family. She said firefighters used a chainsaw to cut through the branches and free him, a process that took about 15 minutes.

Kyle remains in a medically-induced coma, fighting through a series of serious injuries, including fractured ribs, brain bleeds and swelling, as well as a spleen laceration.

Since the GoFundMe page was created, the outpouring of support has been overwhelming, with about $60,000 raised so far to help with food and medical bills.

“The whole family is so sweet,” Poirier said. “It’s a terrible circumstance, but it just shows the world that when you do good, it’ll come back to you when you need it.”
