A red-listed bridge on Page Road in Bow is scheduled to undergo crucial repairs in the coming weeks that will reroute traffic through the area for about four months.

Built in the 1950s, the bridge spans over Bela Brook and has suffered extensive wear over the decades, including rust and structural damage that have raised safety concerns.

David Stack, Bow’s town manager, said the town is currently preparing the site for construction. The ensuing work will not only address the structural issues but also include traffic management.

“There is going to be a fair amount of traffic because it’s a busy bridge,” said Stack. “There are a lot of issues with the bridge, but it’s getting fixed.”

The project involves the complete removal of the existing metal pipe arch and concrete headwalls, which will be replaced with a new precast concrete arch bridge. The upgrades will also include new headwalls, wing walls, improved drainage and roadway paving.

The total cost of the project is $1,387,500.

Bow will fund 20% of the cost, with the remaining 80% covered by the New Hampshire State Bridge Aid Program. The town’s contribution was approved at the 2023 Town Meeting.

After a request for proposals was issued earlier this year, WP Davis Construction was awarded the contract to carry out the work. The new bridge was designed by Dubois & King, while The Turner Group will oversee the project to ensure quality and progress.
