Sydney Herrington played at the top of her game; so did Emily Senko, but neither performance was enough to lift the Bishop Brady-Trinity-West girls’ hockey team past Exeter on Sunday in battle of the unbeatens.

Herrington scored twice and Senko stood on her head in goal with 24 saves, but the Giant Pioneers came up just short in a 3-2 overtime loss against the Blue Hawks.

“It was unbelievable even,” Brady-Trinity-West coach Dan Earley said of the matchup. “I think every game should be like that.”

It was just the first loss of the year for the Giant Pioneers (8-1), who also saw strong showings from Lauren Trippiedi (assist) and Kate Shoemaker (assist) and will take on Exeter (7-0) again on Wednesday.

“I thought we outplayed them, but in the end, they had the edge,” Earley said. “I thought it was a great team effort.”
