Those to-die-for pastries and tarts at Bread and Chocolate, unavailable the past six weeks due to a medical emergency, are back.

So is everything else at the longtime favorite, which opened for business this week and posted hours of 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

“We are not taking orders just yet,” read the company’s Facebook posting this week, “but our showcase will be full of options for cakes and tarts each day, and our shelves will be stocked with our regular goodies.”

When loyal fans last saw Bread and Chocolate, they were lined up on Main street after news had surfaced that one of the co-owners, Linda Andlinger, suffered a medical emergency and was admitted to Concord Hospital. That forced Bread and Chocolate to close temporarily, but not before scores of loyal customers answered the call for patronage and bought up everything they could.

The crowd lined up before the doors opened at 8 a.m., and it was clear that parents were keeping a tradition going when they chose to stand on Main Street with their kids in the cold.

David Shore of Concord, 30, said it best that day:

“I lived here my whole life, and I’ve been going there for about that long,” Shore said. “My parents used to bring me here, and now I’m grown and now I bring my kids here. It’s just part of Concord.”

An online donation drive for owners Franz and Linda Andlinger, which is still active, raised more than $20,000 for their medical expenses and lost business revenue.

No one was available for comment during store hours Wednesday.
