Former New England College assistant men's basketball coach Shannon Sciria has been appointed to lead his alma mater’s men’s basketball team at Colby-Sawyer, where he played during the 2008-09 season.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to be named the head men’s basketball coach at Colby-Sawyer,” said Sciria.

During his time as a player, he was part of the team that finished with a 20-8 record in 2009 and made an appearance in the ECAC Tournament.

He graduated that year with a communications major and sociology minor. Afterward, he pursued a master’s degree in sports management and leadership from Southern New Hampshire University. He had a previous stint as a coach for the Chargers, serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2018 to 2021.

At New England College, he helped the Pilgrims reach a NECC regular season championship in 2021-22 and a runner-up finish in 2022-23. His success as an assistant coach for NEC, connection to the school and passion for the sport made him the right fit to return to Colby-Sawyer, Director of Athletics Jen McKillop said.

Sciria said he’s ready to get to work.

“This is more than a coaching position—it's a chance to build something truly special with our student-athletes, to inspire excellence, and to represent a community that values hard work, integrity, and growth,” Sciria said. “I can’t wait to get started.”
