Concord’s annual Christmas parade called off

Concord’s annual Christmas Parade, scheduled for Saturday morning along Loudon Road, has been canceled.

Rain forecast for Saturday morning appears to be the culprit. Temperatures were expected to be in the 40s with rain and patchy fog, according to the National Weather Service.

The City of Concord announced on its website that road closures for the parade, specifically Loudon Road from Hazen Drive to Canterbury Road, are no longer necessary.

The annual event features dance troupes, youth groups and civic organizations parading through the Heights and riding in floats. Santa Claus is a featured guest.

A city spokesperson said the organizer of the parade did not discuss a rain date with the police department for street closures.

Looking ahead to the Concord Christmas Tree lighting at the State House plaza in downtown Concord, the weather looks clear. The tree lighting celebration, including the closure of Main Street, is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 24, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
