Izabella Nelson: John Stark Female Athlete of the Season

Wednesday, June 27, 2018

What was the biggest challenge you or your team faced this season and how did you overcome it? The biggest challenge my team and I faced this season was definitely getting our bats to come alive early in the game. We all can hit the ball well but it takes us a couple innings to get it going. To overcome this we all got super hyped before our games and carried that energy to the first inning and first pitch of the game.

Who was the unsung hero of your team? My unsung hero of the season was definitely my catcher, Anna Stenger. She blocked every ball she could and made every play she could. She never gets enough credit for her job and I would not be in the position I am now without her.

If you could improve high school softball in New Hampshire, what would you do? If I could improve one thing in New Hampshire high school softball it would be at the end of the year, the D1, D2 and D3 champions do their own tournament to see who is really the best in New Hampshire, and then play other champions around New England.

Do you have any sports superstitions? If so, what are they? My biggest superstition for every game is I always touch the chalk around the circle and I always wear the same sports bra.

Who on your team, coaches included, reminds you of a character in a TV show or movie? Right fielder Brooke Patnode most reminds me of Kourtney Kardashian because no matter what’s going on, she can always make a joke and put a smile on my face.

What is something that is really popular now, but in five years everyone will look back on and be embarrassed by? One trend that is currently in now that will be embarrassing later is definitely tucking sweatpants into your tall Nike socks.

Where do you get your news? I get my news from my mom. She so nicely cuts everything with my name on it out of the Concord Monitor.

What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made? My best purchases were the new bats I bought and my worst purchase was a fidget spinner.

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know? One of the most ridiculous facts I know is that pigeons bob their heads when walking to stabilize the picture they are looking at.

What’s invisible but you wish people could see? Something that’s invisible but I wish people could see are germs.

If you could go to school in a foreign country, which country would you pick and why? If I could go to one foreign country it would be Iceland because it’s the land of fire and ice.

If animals could talk, which would be the rudest? If animals could talk an ostrich would be the rudest one.

What questions would you like to ask a time traveler from 200 years in the future? If I could ask a time traveler 200 years into the future any question, it would be what college and job I have when I’m older.

If you were hired to show tourists what life is really like where you live, what would you show them / have them do? If I had to tour a group of people around the town of Weare, I would show them Horace Lake because it’s very beautiful and has an amazing sunset.

What’s the best thing about being a teen? What’s the worst? The best thing about being a teen is definitely being able to have little responsibilities but be young and have fun. The worst part is definitely the drama.
