Concord Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found inside a “makeshift tent” at the Steeplegate Mall property on Loudon Road on Tuesday night.

Police responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. reporting a potential death inside a campsite there, and the man found was dead when they arrived. Autopsy results are pending, and his name is being withheld, but police say there appears to be no threat to the public.

A month ago, the developer hoping to remake the mall asked for city permission to knock most of it down, even though it doesn’t have city approvals to move forward with construction yet. The new owner cited public safety concerns, including trespassing, vandalism, trash dumping and intrusions by trend-seeking “urban explorers.” The planning board gave approval, and fences with demolition signs have gone up around the property, but the building remains standing.
