Severe weather delayed Concord Post 21’s American Legion Senior State Tournament opener by 17 hours, but the boys in blue wasted zero time once they took the field at Nashua’s Holman Stadium on Saturday.

Post 21 took an early lead in the second inning and Nate Innerfield’s walk-off three-run triple closed out a commanding 12-2 victory in five innings over Salem Post 63.

Designated hitter Mitch Coffey (2-for-2, walk, run), the only Post 21 player with multiple hits, led off the bottom of the second inning with a triple and scored the game’s first run on an RBI single from Dan Revellese.

Coffey also drove home Cam McGonigle (1-for-3, three runs, RBI, walk) on a single and Brooks Craigue (1-for-3, three runs, RBI) scored on a Dawson Fancher single to give Concord a 3-0 lead at the end of three.

Post 21 took advantage of six walks and three singles in the fourth to extend its lead to 9-1.

Matt Drewes earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run, five hits and two walks in four innings. Luke Dougherty struck out two Salem batters in relief.

Concord (24-3) will take on Portsmouth Post 6 (16-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
