Police are investigating a suspected suicide outside the Kennedy Building in downtown Concord.

Residents of the 10-story apartment building at 1 Thompson St. say a person jumped from a top-floor balcony early Wednesday afternoon. Police at the scene confirmed a fatality, but did not identify the victim or a cause of death.

First floor residents Harry and Margo Ghnon said they were coming back from getting coffee when they noticed police cars outside the building.

“Somebody jumped off the ninth-floor porch,” Margo said.

Police were seen on a top-floor balcony of an apartment residents said was being rented to a woman and her daughter.

“We met the woman because she’s lived here for awhile, but as far as socializing, we didn’t do too much,” said Robert Harrow, who lives on the fifth floor of the building. “It’s a pretty horrible thing.”

Police were still at the scene Wednesday afternoon.
