On Feb. 2, 2021, Ryan Philbrick made history by scoring his 100th point in a Crimson Tide uniform, the first Tide defenseman to do so.

At the time, head coach Dunc Walsh said in an interview with former Monitor sports editor Tim O’Sullivan that “I don’t know if Ryan will play Division I (college hockey), but he has a chance.”

That chance is now a reality.

Steve Jacobs – the program director for hockey at Cushing Academy – announced on Saturday night that Philbrick has committed to the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team.

Philbrick was the Division I Player of the Year for the 2020-21 season, leading the Tide to a 16-2 record and a D-I championship title.

The blueliner joins an elite group of former Concord High players who have played D-I, including Mick Mounsey, who played for UNH from 2000-04.
