Sparks were flying on Interstate 89 early Wednesday morning after a suspect in a motor vehicle accident on Loudon Road in Concord fled the scene with only two functioning wheels, according to police.

Benjamin Gray, 35, of Concord was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated – first offense – and conduct after a motor vehicle accident. Police say Gray left the scene of an accident on Loudon Road at the intersection of Hazen Drive, in which significant damage was caused. As police responded to the scene about 12:30 a.m., dispatchers began receiving 911 calls from motorists on I-89 northbound reporting a damaged vehicle tossing sparks into the roadway, according to a press release.

After a brief search, state police say they made contact with the vehicle on Route 103 in Warner where it came to a stop on the front lawn of a residence. Troopers at the scene said the vehicle had no front bumper and only two remaining wheels.

Gray was released on person recognizance bail and was awaiting arraignment in Hillsborough District Court.
