Letter: Candidate appreciation

My name is Carl Soderstrom, and I was a candidate for state representative in the recent Merrimack District 27 election here in Concord. I’d like to congratulate Rebecca McWilliams and Art Ellison, the victors, and Eric Gallager as well. While out campaigning, when asked about the competition, I always said that everyone in this race is a fine person.

Rebecca, your father said that you were up late many nights working on your campaign, and you assembled an amazingly large and smart team. I am impressed by your organization.

Art, I talked to some of your fellows in the union while we were knocking on doors (them for you and I for myself), and it was handshakes and smiles all around.

Eric, I was impressed by your experience and knowledge; there are great things to come for you.

I want to thank all the voters who greeted me warmly and told me about the issues important to them. I especially appreciated those who asked me hard questions – the intellectual engagement was the best part of the experience. It was good to see some of you again at the candidate forums and at the polls as well. I now have hundreds of new friends.

I especially want to thank all the people who hosted a sign for me in their yard. It was a pleasure to talk to all of you, and I’ll be around to collect those signs in the coming days.
