Concord police are asking for the public’s help to identify two men who are suspected of putting “credit card skimmer” devices on registers at Walmart on Loudon Road and Market Basket on Storrs Street.

On October 19, 2023, Walmart employees alerted the Concord Police that a credit card skimmer was placed on one of the registers in the self-checkout lane.

Then on October 27, 2023, Concord Police were notified by workers at Market Basket that card skimmer was affixed to one of their registers.

Concord police determined that both devices had been installed by the same two individuals, police said. 

“Similar incidents are being investigated by law enforcement agencies throughout New England,” Concord police said. “Based on the functionality of the devices, sensitive information from credit and debit cards is obtained by the device and relayed to a third party.”

One telltale way to spot a “skimmer” device is that the card chip reader slot appears like it’s jammed, causing the customer to swipe the card to steal information.
