Godzilla in ConcordCalling the disrespectful Northern Pass proposal “Godzilla Stomps New Hampshire” would be funny if it weren’t so pathetic.
Why disrespectful? Northern Pass wants to use the New Hampshire we love as nothing more than a doormat on its way to lucrative power markets in Hartford and New York – an extension cord to benefit the powerful and rich.
The project would create an entirely new 40-mile scar across the North Country, but I’m wondering if Concord’s people are truly aware of what it would mean for their own backyards.
Concord has been pouring millions into its wonderful people-friendly downtown, and preserving its outlying countryside. Yet the Godzilla of Northern Pass doesn’t even seem to be on the public’s radar screen.
Those of us in the north who have been fighting this thing for seven years, and not just because we would suffer a gigantic new scar on our landscape, are worried about this apparent lack of widespread public awareness or concern below the notches.
Do Concord’s citizens know what this Godzilla of the North will do to their own backyards on its money-hungry march south?
Do the people who have for so long demonstrated their love for their city’s past and future really have a grip on what this unneeded, private, for-profit, New Hampshire-trashing project would do to Concord’s beloved landscape?
Citizens, awake.
