Fabulous Looks has been a home away from home for owner Sherry Spurr for over 30 years.
From patterned purses to antique jewelry, the boutique embodies her artistic vision.
“I just love color,” Spurr said.
Now, after three decades of colorful memories, Spurr is retiring. Hoping for more downtime as she gets older, she will pass the store on to new owner, Lori Plaisted de Losada, at the end of August.
Fabulous Looks has changed locations on Main Street four times since opening in 1994, carrying its clientele with it every time. Spurr attributes this customer loyalty to close relationships and her ability to receive feedback well.
Spurr says her goal as a retailer has always been to make the customers happy. Throughout the years, she frequently asked her clients about their preferences, always valuing their honesty and using it to improve her store.
“You have to let go of your ego a bit,” Spurr said with a laugh.
The first days of the boutique weren’t always easy.

“I can remember being happy if I sold a scarf all day,” she said.
It took hard work and dedication to build the client base she has today, especially given that the original location was tucked away on the second floor of 82 N. Main Street.
Listening to her customers inspired her to grow the store from its original selection of jewelry and accessories to include clothing.
As soon as the boutique’s current location on the first floor of 86 N. Main St. became available, she jumped at the opportunity to rent it. This way, she would have a large enough space to fulfill her clients’ wishes and add a clothing collection.
“It’s almost like when she goes shopping, she thinks of me,” client Mary Davidson said. “She always knows what I like.”
Davidson’s loyalty went beyond just an appreciation for Spurr’s taste. After years of shopping at Fabulous Looks, she says that she can truly call Spurr a friend. Nowadays, she stops by once or twice a week just to chat and almost always ends up leaving with a purchase.
The pandemic years were rough for Spurr, but not impossible. Doing her best to continue catering to her customers’ interests amidst the chaos, Spurr stayed above water long enough to make it through without any permanent closure.
“I’d go in there and buy a mask,” Davidson said. “She had great masks.”
When looking for a new owner, Spurr sought someone who would enjoy the place as much as she did and carry most of the styles and lines that her customers already love.
Spurr connected with de Losada, and they “hit it off” immediately.
“I asked her what her five favorite lines are, and they were my five,” Spurr said, beaming.
Both Spurr and de Losada described each other as their “retail clone,” with Davidson adding that they are “kindred spirits.”
For de Losada, it really is a “perfect fit.”
“We’re honored to have this opportunity, and we want the transition to be as smooth and seamless as possible for the Fabulous Looks customers,” de Losada said.
The store will keep the same name and almost all of the same brands but will add shoes and expand its jewelry collection. Clients will also be able to purchase items online beginning this fall.
Fabulous Looks, under Spurr’s leadership, will close at the end of August. De Losada plans to open her version of the boutique a week later with the “same name, same service, all the brands you love, plus more fabulous ways to shop.”
Spurr’s departure is bittersweet for her customers.
“I’m looking forward to Sherry being able to retire knowing that someone’s coming in that is very similar to her…someone that is going to take care of her clientele,” said Davidson, “I think it’s great for both of them, and I can’t wait to meet her.”
