As construction progresses on the new 24-bed forensic psychiatric facility, designed to offer a secure and supportive environment for patients, the state is preparing to host an informative session this Thursday.

The construction of the new forensic hospital started in June 2023, with an expected completion date of June 2025.

Located adjacent to the New Hampshire hospital, this facility is designed to cater to patients whose severe mental health conditions impede their ability to stand trial.

It will also serve those who, while not having committed any crimes, present challenges that exceed what standard treatment settings can address. This initiative is part of a broader effort to expand treatment options for those with severe mental health issues.

To keep the community informed, the state is hosting a virtual information session on Aug. 29 at 6:00 p.m.

During this meeting, hosted by the state Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Administrative Services, attendees will receive the latest updates on the project’s progress and the anticipated timeline for the new hospital. The public will also have the opportunity to submit questions and share their comments at the meeting.

PC Construction of Vermont has been awarded the contract for this project, with their bid of $41.9 million to build the mental health facility in Concord.
