A former Proctor Academy student is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old on the school’s Andover campus in fall 2015.

Derek Tillotson, 19, of Bow was indicted on three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault. He also faces two misdemeanor counts of simple assault, for allegedly having “unprivileged contact” with the girl by biting her lip and kissing her.

Tillotson is accused of entering a girls’ dormitory on the evening of Oct. 25, 2015, when he was still a student, according to a letter from Head of School Mike Henriques. The letter to parents does not name Tillotson but discusses the recent indictments handed down by a Merrimack County grand jury.

According to Proctor Academy’s website, Tillotson was a member of the class of 2016 and the school’s ice hockey and soccer teams.

In his letter to parents, Henriques wrote that Tillotson left Proctor Academy the same night the sexual assault occurred and was also reported to school officials.

“There is no place at Proctor for assault, sexual or otherwise, and we work hard to ensure the well-being of all students,” Henriques said.

He went on to say, “We are saddened by the impact this incident has had on our community, and the young woman’s well-being is of particular concern.”

Advisors are available to meet with students who have questions and want to discuss the situation, Henriques told parents. He also encouraged concerned parents to contact the school.

“We want to answer questions, but we will do so with respect and sensitivity to the seriousness of the situation,” he said.
