Anyone who has ever dreamt of riding a kayak down a ski mountain will have a chance to do so during Franklin’s winter carnival, which starts this month.
The Franklin Outing Club’s winter carnival will run from Saturday to March 2, with different activities occurring almost every weekend.
The first event, a casserole supper, a bonfire and sledding at the Veterans Memorial Recreation Area, will run from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, organizers said.
Popular events – such as a third annual boat bash at the ski area, and the ice fishing tournament on Webster Lake – will return in February and March.
Here is a list of activities:
■Saturday, 5 to 8 p.m.: Casserole supper, bonfire and sledding at Veterans Memorial Recreation Area, 266 Flaghole Road.
■Feb. 3, 8:30 to 10 a.m.: Pancake breakfast at Veterans Memorial Recreation Area.
■Feb. 9: Cardboard sled races at 1 p.m. and pond hockey at 2:30 p.m. Where: Veterans Memorial Recreation Area.
■Feb. 10: Snowmobile radar runs at Griffin Beach on Webster Lake. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m., event beings at 10:30 a.m.
■ Feb. 10 at 1 p.m.: Ski and snowboard races at Veterans Memorial Recreation Area.
■ Feb. 16 to 17 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Webster Lake Ice Fishing Derby at Griffin Beach, Webster Lake.
■March 2: Downhill kayaking boat bash registration open from, 10 to 11 a.m., boat bash runs 11 a.m to 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Recreation Area.
