Letter: Ayotte response to Sandy Hook Elementary School

As the election quickly approaches and much is being said about Kelly Ayotte’s stance on abortion rights, it is so important that the people of New Hampshire never forget what happened on Dec. 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut and her response to it. Twenty beautiful, innocent children and six adults, were all massacred at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The carnage was so violent that parents were not allowed to see their children because there was nothing left to see. In the months that followed, a bipartisan bill requiring more thorough background checks on those seeking to purchase a gun went before the Senate for a vote. Ms. Ayotte had 95% of New Hampshirites wanting her to vote yes on that bill. She voted no.

When asked why she voted no, her response was that it would be too much of a burden on gun store owners. No mind the burden the Sandy Hook families, friends and community continue to carry to this day, she didn’t want a gun store owner to have to fill out an extra form or two. Ms. Ayotte lost her job because of her Sandy Hook vote, and she should never be allowed back in a position where she can and will ignore her constituents again.
