Baseball

Bishop Brady 16, Kearsarge 5

Key players: Bishop Brady – Jack Speiss (WP, 5.1 IP, 0 ER, 11 K; hit, 2 RBI, 2 runs, SB), Winn Thomas (4 hits, 4 runs, SB), Max Guerra (3 hits, 3 walks, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Luke Bedard (double, 2 RBI, run), Ryan Bossch (3 hits, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Kolt Gaudreault (walk, 3 HBP, run, RBI)

Highlights: Brady scored five runs in the top of the first, but Kearsarge charged back in the bottom of the second, scoring four times to tie things up, 5-5. Brady answered back with four of its own in the top of the third, and never looked back and Jack Speiss came in to pitch 5.1 scoreless innings in relief with 11 strikeouts to cool down the Kearsarge bats.

Coach’s quote: “Jack Sheppard started and didn’t pitch badly, but for the first time all year we had a bad defensive inning in the bottom of the second, so at that point I felt like we needed a strikeout pitcher in the game and Speiss did a great job in relief.” – Bishop Brady’s Skip Foy

Salem 12, Concord 2

Key players: Concord – Kaelen Williams (2-run double), Wyatt Rockwell (hit, run), Tyler Mayo (run), Alex Lewis (pitched well in relief)

Highlights: Concord went down 12-0 after three innings, but got two back in the bottom of the third thanks to a 2-run double by Williams.

Key players: Hopkinton – Michael DePiano (WP, 3.2 IP of relief, 1 H, 0 R, 3 K), Aidan Clay (3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 K), Travis Windhurst (1-for-2, 2 walks, run, 2 RBI), Bronson Ammann (5 putouts, 2 assists), Kyle Buelte (6 putouts)

Highlights: Clay threw 3.1 innings in his first varsity start before DePiano entered the game to secure the win. Hopkinton trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the fifth when Jack Bennett led off the frame getting hit by a pitch. He eventually scored on Windhurst’s RBI single to tie the game. Hagan Cook drew a walk with the bases loaded to collect his first varsity RBI, giving Hopkinton a 3-2 lead. The Hawks tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Coach’s quote: “Very pleased with both our young pitchers today.  Clay didn’t have his best stuff, but he was a competitor and battled out there in his first start.  In relief, DePiano displayed his most efficient outing on the season, needing 27 pitches to get 11 outs. Our defense was energized by both of their performances, making great plays behind them, and the game became a good team win with lots of players contributing.

Highlights: Rose hit an inside-the-park home run in the fifth, and also added a triple and double. Henry hit her first ever home run. Archambault went 4-for-5 in the game and Mundy was stellar in the circle earning the win.

Key players: Hopkinton – Aurelia Salce (2-for-3; SS), Kinley St. Cyr (2-for-2, walk), Paige Boudette (2-for-3; CF), Heidi Archambault (LF)

Highlights: Hopkinton took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first before Trinity tied it, 2-2, in the fourth. The Hawks retook the lead when Boudette scored on an overthrow in the fourth and Trinity tied it 3-3 in the fifth. Boudette scored the game-winning run in the sixth, and she, Salce and Archambault made big plays in the field over the final two innings to keep the Pioneers off the board the rest of the way.
