Girls’ Basketball

Hopkinton 42, Stevens 39

Key players: Hopkinton  – Shaylee Murdough (12 points), Sydney Westover (11 points), Lizz Holmes (7 points); Stevens – Kiley Bundy (16 points)

Highlights: The Hawks and Cardinals had their second game in four days against each other, with the Hawks again prevailing in a thriller on the road. Strong rebounding and key free throws from Westover in the final seconds iced the game for the Hawks.

Coach’s quote: “Another great battle with Stevens, and a huge win in another playoff atmosphere. Our defensive effort has been outstanding the last two games, and tonight we had great contributions from Helen Yeaton and Paige Boudette late to help seal the win.” – Hopkinton’s Mike Mahoney

Boys’ Basketball

Kearsarge 56, Stevens 54

Key players: Kearsarge – Parker Goin (19 points), Austin Needham (10 points), Ajay Tremblay (10 points), Drew Huff (9 points), Noah Whipple (7 points), Eddie Kinzer (defense), Bragen Kinzer (defense), Noah Rubenberg (defense), Eli Whipplie (defense)

Highlights:  Playing each other for the second time in three days, the rematch lived up to the hype, with Stevens leading by one point (11-10) after the first quarter and Kearsarge leading by one (28-27) at halftime. Goin scored 12 of his game-high 19 points in the first half. The Cardinals regained the lead with a 46-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Noah Whipple hit an elbow jumper with less than a minute to play to make the score 53-52, but Stevens’ guard Jacob Davis hit two free throws with 10 seconds to play to give the Cardinals a 54-53 lead. Kearsarge called a timeout and Needham drained a deep 3 at the buzzer to clinch a thrilling victory on the Cougars’ home floor. Kearsarge has won five in a row.
