A steady breeze kept balloons on the ground, but crowds still enjoyed the sunshine at the Hillsboro Balloon Festival and Fair on Friday at Grimes Field in Hillsboro. The festival kicked off Thursday and runs through Sunday.

Balloons are scheduled to fly both Saturday and Sunday, at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., but lift offs require specific wind and temperature conditions and could be delayed or canceled. Tethered balloon rides, offered first come first serve, will be available on Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

In addition to breakfast on the field, afternoon carnival rides, food and music, Saturday will feature 10 p.m. fireworks and Sunday will have a midday parade and a cupcake eating contest.

Admission to the festival is free but there is a $10 parking fee per car at the park. Proceeds will benefit the Lions Club, Hillsboro Fire Department and Greater Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce. More information including a detailed schedule can be found at balloonfestival.org/about/schedule.
