Letter: Intellectual honesty for Trump supporters

This is in response to Bill Bunker’s letter of Sept. 11 criticizing “progressive” letters and columns condemning Donald Trump for his fascist behavior.

His supporters complain that progressives are still angry that Donald Trump got elected but fail to understand that they are angry at the outrageous actions and statements that come from him daily, which do not represent what most Americans think.

First, I would point out that my Columbia Encyclopedia (printed in 1994, long before the election) describes fascism as “a philosophy of government whose major concepts include opposition to democratic and socialist movements; aggressive military policy; racist ideologies; belief in an authoritarian leader who embodies the ideals of nationalism. Gains support by promising social justice to discontented elements of the working and middle classes, and social order to powerful financial interests; while retaining class divisions and usually protecting capitalist and land owning interests.”

You wanted intellectual honesty? So, Mr. Bunker, please take off your own blindfold and see that if the shoe fits Trump (bone spurs or not) he must wear it!

Finally, any thinking person, progressive or not, should feed your last paragraph back to you with the following substitutions: False narratives created by Fox News spoon feed conservatives a serving of dishonesty that they are happy to promote, feeding the minions who fall for bromides (MAGA) and false promises (Mexico will pay for that wall).
