Letter: Keep Gardner, keep the primary

Tuesday, December 04, 2018

Honor, dignity and integrity describe Secretary of State Bill Gardner, a man who has tirelessly fought to keep New Hampshire’s place as the first-in-the-nation primary. He has upheld legislation that for many years changed the voting laws of New Hampshire. He consistently fulfilled his duty as a nonpartisan referee of New Hampshire’s changing voting laws.

Gardner was the first to challenge the president’s charges of widespread voter fraud in New Hampshire following the 2016 election. Serving on the voter integrity commission was an ingenious move. He wanted to prove that there was no widespread voter fraud, and the best way to do that was to be in the tent rather than attempting to get a peek under the tent.

On the other hand, Colin Van Ostern raised $200,000 to get Democratic representatives elected and now has the audacity to state he can be nonpartisan. The facts speak for themselves regarding Van Ostern’s claims that he could be nonpartisan. Also, the most-telling fact regarding Van Ostern’s campaign for secretary of state is the two top New Hampshire Democrats supporting Gardner – former governor John Lynch and longtime senator Lou D’Allesandro.

At the end of the day, the moderate Democrats will decide who will be the next secretary. The millions of dollars in revenue coming into New Hampshire as a result of the primary should not be lost because a nonpartisan was elected.

Do the right thing and keep Bill Gardner.
