Letter: Feltes, not Sununu, supports women’s rights

The women and men of NH should be extremely concerned about the rush to install Judge Amy Coney Barrett on the U.S. Supreme Court. If confirmed, Barrett will solidify a 6-3 anti-choice majority on the nation’s high court. And, if Gov. Sununu is re-elected, his plans to re-nominate the anti-choice Attorney General as the Chief Justice of the NH Supreme Court would deprive us an alternative forum. When Roe v Wade falls, it will be up to our state constitution and laws to protect our personal freedoms, and the individual at the helm of our highest court will be a person hostile to abortion rights.

Sununu calls himself pro-choice. Well, Mr. Governor, if you are pro-choice, why did you vote against funding for Planned Parenthood, which provides essential reproductive health care services to women? If you are pro-choice, why did you veto legislation requiring commercial insurers that cover maternity care to also cover abortion services? If you are pro-choice, why did you grant pandemic emergency dollars to crisis pregnancy centers that spread harmful misinformation designed to prevent women from getting abortions?

Voters who care about the rights of all persons to make decisions freely about when to bear children should not be deceived. As much as Gov. Sununu would like to gaslight us into thinking he is pro-choice, his record shows he is not.

Unlike Sununu, Dan Feltes will protect a woman’s right to the full range of reproductive services, including abortion.
