A middle-aged man was found dead in Franklin on Friday. Few details were available by press time, but Franklin police Chief David Goldstein said there was no danger to the public.

The man’s name and cause of death will be released after his next of kin have been notified, said Goldstein, who was unsure about all of the details and referred questions to Det. Sgt. Ralph Hale.

Hale was not immediately available for comment.

The man was found on a hill in an area known to locals as a hangout for homeless people, who have set up chairs there and can interact in private, hidden by trees in a spot that overlooks downtown Franklin, near the Winnipesaukee River.

Residents have long complained about the homeless population congregating on the hill, before moving to their campsites in the deep woods.

Goldstein said he didn’t know where the man was from, nor did he know if he was homeless.
