Letter: Response to ‘Deer now’

As a school board member, it is absolutely fair that citizens call me out when upset with decisions I have made. Recent decisions about the middle school have spurred all kinds of words and action, and I firmly believe in people’s right to use their voices and engage in the process. What I must respond to, though, is the outright bullying by some in this community. I hesitate to call it that, but I don’t know what else to call it. Swastikas drawn on school board docs and posted online. The persistent name-calling, on any given day, I am ignorant, conniving, stupid, cowardly, power-hungry. A recent email to the board told us to invest in KY Jelly for reasons I don’t have the heart to write here, but that someone else thought okay to say.

And now this, another LTE from Mr. Williams, this one conjuring up imagery of dead children on the side of a road as a tactic against the board. It is a most egregious form of fear-mongering and honestly, it breaks my heart. Some may not agree with the board’s decision to move the middle schoo, but that decision was made by people who are at all times invested in the health and well-being of our children. I am sick to my stomach that we have gotten here, how can I not respond? I am a human being. A mom. A concerned citizen. Please remember your humanity when debating this issue.
