The individual and doubles tournaments have wrapped up, and the summer is in full swing. As many players hone their craft for next season on their local courts, the New Hampshire Tennis Coaches Association has announced its selections for both boys’ and girls’ divisional all-state teams.

Many area players were nominated by their coaches, but not all participated. The association said in a statement that it will work to simplify the selection process moving forward to put forward more accurate and well-rounded selections.

Boys’

For the past four seasons, Concord’s Kevin Parsons has grown the foundation of the Crimson Tide’s team. This year, the team had its largest pool of players, and it’s on the path to grow further as players learn and mature.

Although none of his players made the first or second teams in a very competitive D-I pool, Parsons was recognized for his work and named the co-coach of the year alongside Exeter’s Justin Tardiff.

In Division II, Bow’s No. 1 and 2 players, senior Ben Rondeau and sophomore Milo Cocola, were named to the 1st and 2nd teams, respectively. They powered Bow to the quarter-final round, where the team eventually fell to Winnacunnet. Cocola also advanced in the singles tournament but lost in a close match to Kearsarge senior Liam Miller.

Division III had the most area representation as coaches Lynn Miller of Kearsarge and Marianne Thebodeau of Bishop Brady were both named D-III coaches of the year. Each helped their boys’ teams reach the state championship.

This year’s championship was Miller’s third win and fifth consecutive appearance at the Cougars’ helm. On the flip side, Thebodeau returned Bishop Brady to the championship for the first time since 1973, and the team had an strong underdog run in the playoffs to reach it.

Kearsarge’s Liam Miller, the Monitor’s boys’ tennis player of the season, was the only Cougar named to the All-State 1st team with a leading performance as the No. 1 player and a run to the state singles semifinal.

Bishop Brady surprised No. 4 Prospect Mountain and top-seeded St. Thomas in the playoffs and believed in themselves through to the end against Kearsarge. No. 1 player, sophomore Teddy Yap, was named to the D-III 1st team All-State roster with Miller and was instrumental in the team’s run to the final.

Girls’

Kearsarge and Bishop Brady had strong years in tennis all-around, and both had their number one players named to the Division III First Team.

The Monitor’s girls’ tennis player of the season, freshman Tucker Dragon from Kearsarge, had a breakout season as the team’s No. 1 player and went 13-3 in singles and 4-4 in doubles, to lead Kearsarge to the D-III semifinals.

Bishop Brady senior Anya Koshy was named to the first team as well and was a leader for the young team that barely missed out on the playoffs. In the state singles tournament, she was one of only seven D-III players among 30 competing, but she faced a tough opponent, Timberlane’s Abigail Robinson, in her last appearance.

Coe-Brown’s team won the D-II sportsmanship award as voted on by its peers, and their poise was evident throughout the season. Early in the season against Pembroke, the Bears lost in a nail-biting tie-break but still acted with composure and friendliness toward the Spartans.

Coe-Brown’s No. 1 Cali Herrick was named to the second team as she led the team to the prelim round with the 11th seed for the second year in a row.
