On Tuesday, Jan. 23, New Hampshire will have its first in the nation presidential primary. This year’s primary will look a little different as the sitting president will not be on the ballot. President Biden and the National Democratic Committee(DNC) have decided New Hampshire isn’t worth their attention.

For undeclared voters, unless you really want a free pony from Vermin Supreme there is no reason to vote in the Democratic Party primary. All the action is on the Republican ballot.

With 41% of New Hampshire voters registered as undeclared, they can make the difference in this presidential election. When voting in the Republican primary undeclared voters should choose a candidate that is not under indictment. They should choose a candidate that makes choices based on actual policy and not their ego. They should choose a candidate that can concede an election they lost like an adult. They should choose a candidate that earned our own governor’s endorsement. I just lost the DeSantis and Christie crowd with that last one.

Voters registered as undeclared voting in the New Hampshire primaries is a feature, not a bug. In software, a feature intentionally improves a user’s experience while a bug is a problem that needs to be fixed. Undeclared voters enhance our state’s primaries. Undeclared voters tend to be more moderate. They do not wake up every morning on the red or blue team. They help elect moderate leaders like our Governor Chris Sununu. Without undeclared voters in the primaries, we would be stuck choosing between the right-wing extremist or the left-wing extremist. They bring balance to the force that is New Hampshire politics.

In January, the entire nation will be watching our state. Regardless of what President Biden and the DNC do the First in the Nation Primary is still important. It has the potential to show the Republican nomination is not a foregone conclusion. New Hampshire has the chance to make the Republican presidential race remarkably interesting.

Undeclared voters, you are our only hope for a presidential election that will be about policy, not insults. A chance to choose between increased spending or fiscal responsibility. A chance to disagree on policy without the other side being referred to as vermin. Undeclared voters, circle Jan. 23 on your calendar. Grab a Republican ballot at the polls. Remember after you vote you can return to undeclared status by checking in with the supervisors of the checklist.

Time to shine, my undeclared friends!
