New England College is moving ahead with the second phase of its athletic facilities expansion. Starting in the spring of 2025, NEC will overhaul and renovate Bridges Gymnasium, build new offices for the athletic department and expand the strength lab.
The first phase at the Henniker campus included resurfacing the turf field and initial upgrades to the collegeโs strength lab. This next phase is an even larger undertaking that aims to elevate the quality of campus life and athletics for NECโs students, 46% of whom are varsity D-III athletes and an additional 4% who participate in club sports.
โThis is more than a construction projectโitโs a bold step forward,โ said Dr. Wayne F. Lesperance Jr., President of NEC, in the press release announcing the continuation of the project. โThe Athletics Center exemplifies NECโs innovative spirit and commitment to student success, whether on the field, in the classroom, or beyond. This facility will energize our campus and elevate the experience of every NEC student.โ
The expansion was designed by Stone River Architects and will be built by Harvey Construction, both of which are New Hampshire firms from Bedford.
The design includes modern offices for coaches, a fitness center open to all students and faculty, locker rooms, strength training areas and sports medicine rooms.
