After already proving to be the best in New Hampshire last weekend, the Coe-Brown boys’ 4x800-meter relay took it a step further, winning the New England title at Saturday’s New England Interscholastic Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Cameron Stadium in Bangor, Maine.

Seniors Gavin Demas, Aidan Cox, Tyler Tkaczyk, and junior Jamie Lano formed the winning relay, that clocked a winning time of 7 minutes, 48.08 seconds. Demas ran the anchor leg with an 800-meter split of 1 minute, 53.74 seconds, even faster than the 1:54.37 he set the Division II record with two weeks ago.

That didn’t leave much in the tank for his open 800, where he finished 27th. Lano finished 14th in that event.

All three seniors on that relay will be competing for Division I track programs in college, with Demas heading to Eastern Kentucky University, Cox heading to the University of Virginia and Tkaczyk heading to Siena College.

Other New Hampshire athletes that won New England titles were Pinkerton’s Jordan Wheaton in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles (14.6 seconds), Gilford’s Patrick Gandini in the boys’ 1,600 (4:09.01) and Isaiah Reese in the boys’ javelin (184 feet, 3 inches) and Nashua South’s girls’ 4x100 (48.43 seconds).

Other area boys finished highly among the region’s best, with Concord’s Colby Nyhan tying for third in the pole vault (clearing 13-3) and Alain Twite finishing sixth in the triple jump (44-1.25).

Coe-Brown’s Zach Bistany (seventh discus with a throw of 156-0) and Matt Corriveau (24th long jump), Winnisquam’s Aidan Donahue (ninth high jump, clearing 6-3), Bishop Brady’s Josh Gentchos (12th 200, 14th 100), Bow’s Ben McDowell (tied 17th pole vault) and John Stark’s Rio Calle (18th long jump) were the other area individuals who competed.

Bishop Brady’s 4x100-meter relay edged Concord, finishing 17th and 18th, respectively. Gentchos, Chris Messmore, Alan Yap and Jack Beauchesne ran for Brady, while Deagan Hines, Tim Fahnbulleh, Jackson Borkush and Quinn Marino represented Concord.

Concord’s girls were well-represented. Morgan Doherty qualified for the 100-meter hurdles finals, where she finished seventh in 15.57 seconds. Ella Goulas finished seventh in the high jump (clearing 5-3) and ninth in the triple jump (36-1.25), Katie Muller finished 12th in the 300 hurdles, Chloe Gudas was 16th in the 800 and Kendall Barton tied for 20th in the pole vault.

Concord’s 4x400 of Maddie Muller, Katie Muller, Molly Nyhan and Gudas finished ninth, and the 4x100 of Caroline Quirk, Grace Saysaw, Rachel Gridley and Caroline Cooper came in 12th.

Coe-Brown’s Anushka Chavda (15th 100, 18th 200), Emma Zeblisky (18th javelin), Madeleine Grenier (24th discus) and 20th-place 4x800 (Samanatha Perron, Anna Bergeron, Mallory Taylor and Paige Murdough) competed for the Bears.

Kearsarge’s Molly Ellison and Maelle Jacques went 13-14 in the 1,600, Pembroke’s Natalie Longacre finished 14th in the javelin, Winnisquam’s Becc Kulengosky was 17th in the shot put, Merrimack Valley’s Victoria Leak was 23rd in the discus and Bow’s Maya Brochu was 26th in the 3,200.
