St. John Regional School students on South State Street in Concord had two surprises when they returned to classes this week: a new principal and brand new Bibles.

Stephen Daigle, of Burrillville, RI, welcomed students on the first day, and Concord Council 112, Knights of Columbus, presented them with 145 new Bibles two days later, one for each student, grades one through eight.

“It is important for the children to learn and practice their faith and I hope students enjoy these new Bibles,” said Chuck McGee, Grand Knight. “We hope this also helps both the school and parents with school expenses.” Two types of Bibles were provided: colorfully illustrated, abridged Bibles for the younger students; and larger, unabridged Bibles for older students.

Daigle thanked the knights for their generosity and said he was impressed with the Concord community in his first few days here. He is a graduate of a master’s degree in Education program at Stetson University in Deland, FL.

The Concord Knights have been performing charity in the Concord area since 1895 and are welcoming new members.
