Chichester police are seeking the public’s help to better understand why a two-car crash in which no one was hurt occurred Wednesday on a dangerous stretch of Route 4.

According to a press release, a 43-year-old woman driving east in a Volkswagen sedan crossed the double yellow line and struck a tractor-trailer moving west and driven by a 49-year-old man. Neither driver was identified.

Police said the accident happened shortly before 2 p.m., when the Volkswagen struck the truck’s trailer portion east of the Robinson Mobile Home Park. The tractor-trailer swerved but was unable to avoid contact.

Police said the truck driver was not at fault, adding that the woman might have been distracted and driving erratically. Witnesses are asked to call Chichester police at 798-4911.

The stretch of road, also called Dover Road, has long been an area of concern to local officials, who have said that serious collisions are relatively common in that area.
