Visitors to Pembroke’s Old Home Day will be asked to leave the cigarettes at home this weekend after the town’s select board passed a nonsmoking ordinance for Memorial Field on Monday night.

Smoking at the town-owned field is now punishable by fine – $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second and $100 for the third and subsequent offenses. The ordinance applies to tobacco, smoking-related paraphernalia, e-cigarettes and products that simulate tobacco – yes, vaping, too. Old Home Day is Saturday, but the ban is year-round.

After a public comment period passed with no takers, the board passed the ordinance, 4-0; board member Sandy Goulet did not attend.
