Letter: The past Republican vice presidents

Dick Cheney was George W. Bush’s VP and Mike Pence was Donald Trump’s. Both are alive, mentally intact, and both are in the national news because they both have said they’re not voting for Trump in November. Think about what that means! I think it’s remarkable that the two still living Republican VPs have made public statements urging us not to vote for Trump. Many still view Cheney as one of the most influential and powerful VPs in American history. Pence was a totally loyal partner, until he refused to cave into Trump on January 6th. I’d like to think that both men, having been so close to the ultimate power of the president, wanted to convey to us the danger of another Trump presidency.
There have been some infamous VPs in the past like Aaron Burr under Jefferson and Spiro Agnew under Nixon, both having to leave their office for their bad deeds. Cheney and Pence, like them or not, completed their terms, did their job and knew their bosses well. It now seems that when taking their oaths of office to “preserve, protect, and defend the
Constitution of the United States,” they both took it seriously then and even now. They both know that Trump has not and will not uphold the same oath. They are telling us not to trust him. We should listen.
