Police identified Ewa Martel, 75, as the Concord woman who was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Friday, Dec. 2 near the Hood Plant on North State Street.

Police and fire were called to the area of 340 N. State St. at 10:49 a.m. after Martel was hit by a vehicle driven by Timothy Ricker, 53, of Concord. Ricker was heading south toward downtown.

Upon arrival, paramedics and police provided medical assistance before Martel was transported to Concord Hospital where she later died.

Ricker remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. No charges have been filed.

Martel was once known as a bicycle enthusiast and an avid wine maker, passions she shared with her late husband, Larry, who died in 2018 of Pulmonary Fibrosis. The two married later in life after his first wife died. Martel was described in her husband’s obituary as “an angel who lifted him up and brought joy back into his life with her incredible smile that came from within  along with her present happiness and joy in life.”

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has additional information can contact the Concord Police Criminal Investigations Division at (603) 225-8600. Information can also be submitted anonymously through the Concord Regional Crimeline at (603) 226-3100 or at concordregionalcrimeline.com.
