Letter: In our America

Did he unwittingly stumble into the truth? “Who?” You may ask. Why, Donald Trump, of course, who repeated as he exited Judge Kaplan’s courtroom, “This isn’t America.” In Donald Trump’s America, rich, powerful white men can do what they want to whomever they want with no consequences. “When you’re a star they let you do it.”

“I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody....” I would very much like to believe that the America that exists in his mind is a fiction, an ugly remnant from our past. I have to believe that America, our America, rejects such privilege, such cruelty. In our America the likes of Donald Trump finally are held to account.
