Letter: Trump’s despicable executive order

Just when I thought President Trump could not go lower in his moral bankruptcy, he sinks to new depths. His pardoning of the 1,500 thugs who attacked the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the election process at his own incitement should spark moral outrage.

Capitol police, carrying out their duty to defend, were seriously injured, some permanently disabled or fatally wounded. Trump reportedly watched this on TV for three hours before acting. For Trump to describe these criminals as “hostages” is an insult to actual hostages being held against their will around the world. It is a further insult to law enforcement and the legal community who investigated and prosecuted these cases.

77% of Americans polled felt the legal process should have been allowed to be carried out. So now the militant Proud Boys and Oath Keepers are back on the street thanks to their fellow felon. So much for Republicans’ claim that theirs is the party of “law and order.” Apparently, anyone can break the law without repercussion if it benefits President Trump.
