Beating the heat

Over 90 local boys participated in the 25th annual Hawk Baseball Camp run by longtime Hopkinton varsity baseball coach Dave Chase, and local youth and high school coaches last week. The week of camp closed with some trips down a slip and slide in the 90-plus degree weather.

Little League All-Stars

The Concord Little League 11-12 year old All-Stars opened up District 2 play with a 7-2 win over Laconia. The Concord 11/12 All-Stars defeated Laconia 7-2. Henry Thresher pitched 4.2 innings and had 11 strikeouts, in addition to connecting for three hits at the plate. Rhys Craigue had two hits and two RBI, and AJay Landry also had a strong night at the plate. Concord scored six runs in the sixth inning thanks to some timely bunts and strong baserunning, and ended the game by executing a triple play. Concord is 1-0 and will travel to Rye on Thursday. The top team in District 2 will play the winner of District 1 in the state championship series.

■The Concord Little League Intermediate Division team will play Bedford on July 11, July 13 and July 15 (if necessary) in the best-of-three state championship. All games will be played at Swenson Field in Bedford and start at 6 p.m. The team of 11-13 year old all-stars includes Brody Rossetti, Tyler Mayo, Wyatt Rockwell, Lucas Golden, Jackie Miller, KoltanGaudreault, Gavin Gross, Luke Bedard, Jack Sheppard, Ian Mamos, Bryce Gervais, Cam Burbank and Andrew King. The team is coached by Erik Rossetti, George Golden and Chris Mayo.

Sunset League

Colby-Sawyer (4-1) knocked off Grappone, 6-2, in Sunset League action. Josh Finkle earned the victory working five innings while scattering two hits. Jake Choiniere paced the offense with three hits. Max Lewis blasted a double to drive in two runs, and Matt Miller and Griffin Wheeler each added two hits.

Concord City ‘A’ tennis

Diego Leal was crowned the Concord City ‘A’ Men’s Tennis Tournament singles champion, defeating Trey Bourgeois, 6-2, 6-1 in the final. Bourgeois teamed up with MatteoPasada to win the doubles championship over Marc Bourgeois and Leal, 6-4, 6-3. The tournament was held at Bow Brook Club on June 20-25.


NHTI basketball camps will held over the summer: Rip City Basketball Camp at NHTI (Tuesday-Friday and July 18-21), the 27th annual Specialty Basketball Camp (July 24-28) and Shooter’s Gold Basketball Camps (held in Bow, Conway, Enfield, Gilford, Lancaster, Meredith and Orford throughout the summer). 4th Annual NH Lightning Softball Camp for players ages 7-12 is set for July 20 at Martin Field in Concord. Spaces are limited. Register at www.nhlightning.org.

NH Hoop Skills Basketball Camps, directed by Southern New Hampshire University women’s basketball head coach Karen Pinkos, will be held July 25-28 for girls in grades 2-9 to build skills, increase self-confidence and have fun while playing basketball. Roller skating hours at Douglas N. Everett Arena will be Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 6-9 p.m. Roller skating will only be available for a limited time through July 31. Admission will be $5 with skate rentals available, if needed, for an additional $5 at the Pro Shop. Book a private roller skating event for a birthday party, field trip or rainout event. Spartans AAU Basketball will be hosting its annual Summer League at the Derry Sports Center. Games will be played Tuesday through Thursday evenings through mid-August.
