Letter: Redmond-Scura for school board

Maureen Redmond-Scura, currently a school board member, has my vote for one of the three at-large Concord School Board seats. Maureen understands the challenges our schools, students and families face arising from complex and connected factors.

Quality education and strong student outcomes matter to Maureen, who consistently and conscientiously participates in meetings and informs herself on all aspects of the school board’s work, not just her committees’ work. She once called in to a meeting while on the West Coast visiting her son.

Maureen reaches out to meet students where they are. She attends school events. For example, she spent time in kindergarten when the board was discussing full-day kindergarten. She cares immensely about the future of Rundlett. She’s attended every visionary meeting and will explore the possible futures of Rundlett with an open mind, helping the district create a vision for the future.

Maureen is a reliably good communicator, listener and leader, as evidenced by her history of community involvement as a board member and president of the Children’s Place and the Concord Trust for the Enhancement of Pubic Education; chair of the first charter commission; and member of the PTO and booster club. She ran the chess club at Kimball and Rundlett. Currently she is in her 14th year coordinating the foreign language after-school program.

If Maureen had a slogan, it would be, “I care and I’m there.” Children, families, citizens and taxpayers are her constituents as she works to empower administrators and teachers to provide a flourishing learning environment.
