Letter: Why I’m voting for Democrats

I used to vote for Republicans, but now vote for Democrats. Why? As a veteran who loves our country, I also love the things that make it great. Six of the most important are: respect for democracy, for education, for our environment, for freedom of choice, for science, and for the truth. Of these six, I believe the two most fundamental are a respect for science and a respect for the truth. Democrats respect science. They understand that science is the backbone of public health, and prosperity. From the operation of your smartphone, to understanding and tackling climate change, science improves our lives and helps us make informed decisions that protect our future.

Democrats also respect the truth. In a democracy, truth is non-negotiable. It’s the foundation for trust in our institutions and our ability to function as a society. Just imagine, for example, a world in which your senses, like your vision, didn’t give you a true picture of reality. You wouldn’t survive for long, and that’s what happens to great countries when truth is disregarded. Please join me in voting for Democrats this election.
