Most Concord-area schools closed Wednesday in the face of a blustery storm that was expected to deliver up to 6 inches of snow.

For the Concord School District, it meant a five-day weekend for students who were off Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and then Tuesday for a teacher workshop.

While the storm – part of a weather system stretching from Maine to Florida – created a slippery commute for motorists, it turned into lighter snow by midmorning and roads mostly stayed clear.

The snowfall might not stick around. Officials are predicting another warmup for the weekend, with temperatures climbing into the 40s in New England.
