A grand jury has indicted a man accused of killing his mother at her home in Belmont in March.

Nicholas Murphy, 32, faces alternative counts of second-degree murder in the death of 62-year-old Pamela Murphy. One charge alleges that he knowingly caused her death, and the second accuses him of doing so recklessly, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office. He was also indicted on one count of falsifying physical evidence.

An autopsy performed by Associate Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Christine James determined that Pamela Murphy suffered multiple stab wounds and other trauma to the head and neck. Her death at 31 Tee Dee Drive in Belmont was ruled a homicide.

Nicholas Murphy was arrested April 16 and continues to be held without bail.
