“I grew up in Henniker and always loved the Tucker Free Library, so giving back to them in any way I can is important to me,” John Stark Regional High School senior and National Honor Society (NHS) member Ava Martin told us about her bookmark project she completed for National Honor Society.
Over the course of two weeks in January, Ava and other John Stark National Honor Society members who volunteered to help, created 40 different designs for bookmarks. Some of them were fully illustrated, others black and white with the intent that kids could color them, and still others were interactive (mazes, mad libs, etc). These 40 original bookmark templates will be copied on cardstock by the library and made available to readers at the circulation desk.
“This was a great project that allowed me to give back to my community and visit a place that was always a favorite when I was younger,” commented Ava about the project.
Director of the Tucker Free Library Lynn Piotrowicz added, “The library staff encourages anyone with a similar project to reach out to us. We take great pride in our connection and commitment to Henniker and John Stark kids. We first get to know a lot of them in storytime and later as patrons in their own right beginning in middle school. We’re also proud of the fact that several of them have become employees of the library during their middle and high school years. We currently have 4 students on our staff as pages or substitutes.”
