Letter: Work ahead for Henniker library

The Trustees of the Tucker Free Library would like to thank Henniker community members for their support at town meeting on Saturday. Residents voted to appropriate $70,000 to advance the design and planning process for the library accessibility and safety project. This project includes replacement of an obsolete Garaventa Lift, the addition of public restrooms and consideration of space utilization within the building.

The trustees have been working with SMP Architecture Inc. on a building feasibility study, which was approved at town meeting in 2018. Several options have been explored, and it was during a public information session in January that the most viable option emerged.

The trustees will be seeking volunteers from the community to serve on a building committee. This committee will work along with architects and the construction manager to finalize the design and estimate construction costs. Those who wish to volunteer should email tuckerfree@comcast.net. The trustees will hold a meeting with those who are interested in April.

A critical component of the fundraising campaign is the re-establishment of the Friends of Tucker Free Library. The library director and a trustee representative have been working with the Friends. In the near future they will be completing necessary paperwork to achieve 501(c)3 status. This will allow them to work alongside trustees in the capital campaign/fundraising process, accepting tax-deductible donations for the future building project.

Representatives from SMP will lead a public meeting on April 11 at 7 p.m. to launch the next phase of the building process. Anyone interested in this project or volunteering in any capacity should plan on attending.
