Letter: The Ukraine transcript

I just read the transcript of the call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky. “Read(ing) the transcript” was even worse than reports of quid pro quo. It’s hard to find words with which to explain how free-wheeling and “in your face” President Trump is in dealing with a foreign government to interfere in our elections.

At one point, President Zelensky lets the president know he has and will be using the D.C. Trump Hotel. I have no doubt President Trump was pleased his pockets were being lined by a foreign government. Trump also tells Zelensky to negotiate (my word) with Attorney General William Barr and Rudy Giuliani rather than a state department ambassador.

The transcript got bizarre when conversation turned to former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Ivanovich. President Trump threatens her. There is an orchestrated smear campaign against her.

The most troubling part of transcript to me: Any U.S. president can simply recall any ambassador at any time for the simple reason that the president believes someone else is more in line with his way of thinking. What kind of mind first utilizes “cloak and dagger” tactics rather than a simple recall of an ambassador?
