Letter: Rioters were not Republicans

Regarding the Capitol building riot, I agree that the attack was horrid, but I would like to disagree as well.

Growing up in a military, police family my views are different than the common ones in my generation. I find the events that took place at the Capitol building to be extremely inhuman, disrespectful, and most importantly un-American.

As a Republican, my response is that the rioters were not true Republicans. They were far-right radicals who were inspired by the lack of attention and activism. What they chose to do would under no circumstances a true Republican ever do. Those who stormed the Capitol were animals masking themselves as Republicans. They used the power of the Republican name to destroy the respect for themselves and this country.

As a conservative, sometimes I am biased. Aren’t we all? But to those of other opinions who say police stood by watching as if they supported the raiding of the Capitol, I say it is simply not true. Police used their force and power on the radicals. Although their force was not as present as it was in earlier protests, the Capitol raiding was not expected. Law enforcement officers were unable to prepare. In fact, they used tear gas and rubber bullets. Some even used real bullets.

Ashli E. Babbitt was shot and killed by police during the pro-Trump riot. An officer and three others died as well. There are two sides to every story. I ask you see both.
