UNH men’s soccer falls, 2-1, in America East semifinals

The University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team cut its deficit to one goal in the 77th minute but settled for a 2-1 loss to UMass-Lowell in the America East semifinals on Wednesday.

Ivan Blaskic scored in the 26th minute and Ivan Abramovic gave the River Hawks a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute.

Just 1:21 later, UNH graduate student Willis Griffith scored on a header from 5 yards out, cutting the River Hawks lead to one goal.

The Wildcats outshot Lowell, 13-8, with five shots sent toward the net. UNH goalkeeper Andrew Pesci finished with two saves, while Lowell keeper Austin Kroll finished with four.

UNH, currently ranked No. 17 in RPI, is looking to earn its second-ever NCAA tournament appearance with an at-large bid to the 48-team tournament. The NCAA selection show is Monday at 1 p.m.
