Letter: Vote Vaughn for school board

Published: 10/28/2020 12:01:37 AM

My name is Kate Vaughn, and I am running to represent District C (Wards 8, 9, and 10) on the Concord School Board because I believe all students are entitled to an equitable education and opportunity to reach their full potential.

Our district faces many challenges – keeping students and teachers safe during a pandemic; meeting students’ social, emotional, and academic needs now and after remote and hybrid learning end; filling the superintendent vacancy with an innovative leader; rebuilding trust among the district, board, and community; ensuring student safety; and addressing inequities in our community and school district.

Although we face many challenges, we must also celebrate Concord’s great schools and the hard work our teachers and staff devote to our students every day. I am the right candidate to address the district’s challenges to ensure that Concord continues to be a great place to live and raise a family.

I am a former special education teacher and education attorney, a former public school board member, and a parent. I am collaborative and a strong communicator who will work to build consensus whenever possible, but I am not afraid to make difficult decisions.

I am proud to be supported by state Reps. Christy Bartlett and Safiya Wazir, City Councilor Zandra Rice-Hawkins, outgoing District C school board member Chuck Crush, former school board member Bill Glahn, Amy Girouard, Mike Vlacich, Effie and Tim Donlon, and Concord Showing Up for Racial Justice.

Please join my supporters and vote for Kate Vaughn on Nov. 3.
